Carlos May:  

A major league baseball uniform has the last name of the player on the back, along with that player's number. Carlos May wore number 17. He remains the only player in major league history to wear his birthday on his uniform (May 17). 

Benjamin Wade:  

Missed becoming President of the United States by one vote yet nobody knows who he is.

Everyone remembers him from Unsolved Mysteries, most of us remember him in Airplane!, some of us remember him from The Untouchables, but how many remember that in 1942 he played in Carole Lombard's last movie, To Be or Not To Be , along with Jack Benny?

You know, those 4 by 4 puzzles with one empty space where you slide the numbered tiles around. You can buy the cheap plastic ones made in Hong Kong for 10 for a dollar. But this one is all metal, with enamel tiles and even a carrying case (!). There's even a mini version. A good travel puzzle for the kids, a vice-free mind-quieting distraction for the grown-ups. A glorious thing, it is.
